Description:

The Biotherapeutics Development Unit at Novartis in San Diego is seeking an individual with downstream pilot plant experience and/or pilot scale ADC conjugation experience. The individual will be involved in the downstream processing of biotherapeutics including monoclonal antibodies, therapeutic proteins, and antibody drug conjugates from mammalian or bacterial cells. Responsibilities will mainly focus on the development and implementation of the harvest and separation processes including various unit operations such as depth filtration, continuous centrifugation, microfiltration, ultrafiltration, and diafiltration. Additional responsibilities will include assisting in pilot scale ADC conjugation reactions and subsequent recovery.  The responsible person will also contribute to the evaluation of the new technology needs for the development of new biotherapeutics. The individual is expected to participate in the scale up, optimization, characterization, process validation and technology transfer to CMOs for clinical and/or commercial manufacturing.

Minimum requirements:
•This role requires a B.S. or M.S. in Biochemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related Scientific/ Engineering field.
•A minimum of 3-5 years experience in the biopharmaceutical industry is required, and hands-on experience with antibody-drug conjugates is highly desirable.
•Experience in managing downstream purification technology transfer activities and providing oversight for Contract Manufacturing Organizations (CMOs) is advantageous.
•Broad experience in GMP biologics manufacturing and understanding of regulatory requirements is required.
•Experience working with interdisciplinary teams of scientists on technical projects.
•Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
•Excellent written and oral communication skills.
