Description:

Under direction of the Director of EHS and Security, responsible for coordinating elements of the environmental, health, and safety program at GNF. This includes managing portions of any of the following programs: hazardous waste management (chemical, biological, or radioactive), effluent emission monitoring and reporting, environmental permitting, biological safety, chemical safety, industrially hygiene, and emergency response. This individual operates under general supervision. The position is a non-supervisory position.


Responsibilities and Duties:
• Responsible for a variety of duties and responsibilities related to environmental health and safety including but not limited to: hazardous waste management (chemical, biological, or radioactive), effluent emission monitoring and reporting, environmental permitting, biological safety, chemical safety, industrial hygiene, and emergency response
• Responsible for knowing and understanding all EH&S standard operating procedures related to their job function and following them when performing work duties
• Provide GNF employees with information and assistance in interpreting EH&S standard operating procedures
• Participate in inspections conducted by representatives from outside regulatory agencies
• Conduct new employee training, refresher courses, drills, inspections, and audits of company operations as needed. Recommend opportunities for improving training methods or subject matter based on workplace observations
• Track documentation related to their areas of responsibility, formulate and report applicable metrics and key performance indicators
• May direct the activity of an EH&S intern, consultants, and contractors
• Performs industrial hygiene inspections of a routine nature in a variety of workplaces noting hazardous conditions and unsafe work practices
• Participates in the review of plans for new or modifies facilities, processes, and materials for evaluation of the adequacy of health hazard controls
• Initiates, plans, conducts or directs routine and non-routine industrial hygiene walkthrough surveys and inspections in offices, shops, laboratories, etc. involving potential health hazards and evaluates exposure data and the adequacy of controls
• Determines the adequacy of engineering controls, personal protective equipment/clothing, and recommends means of correcting inadequacies
• Prepares technical reports based on findings of studies, inspections, analysis of laboratory results, etc
• Recommends and reviews corrective action to ensure hazard abatement is accomplished


Minimum Requirements:
• Must have a BS or higher in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Core Science, Engineering or related fields with 3 years of experience.
• Ability to wear a negative pressure Air Purifying Respirator and a SCBA
• Ability to work around hazardous, radioactive, and potentially infectious materials and waste
• Ability to lift 25 pounds
• Good oral and written communication skills
• Ability to understand verbal and written instructions (including SOPs) regarding tasks and duties
• Ability to work at a variety of jobs, assign priorities, and manage own work schedule
