GNF is looking for an experienced purchasing professional to direct all of its procurement activities.  This position requires an individual who is enthusiastic, self-motivated and works well in a fast paced dynamic environment.  The right person will have a broad purchasing background, with extensive experience in the biotechnology industry and a proven ability to work with scientist and others with technical backgrounds


• BS degree or equivalent
• 10 or more years of progressive purchasing experience with 5 or more years of experience in the biotechnology industry are required
• 5 or more years of direct supervisory experience are a prerequisite 
• Strong communication and negotiation skills 
• Knowledge of purchasing software and proven ability to initiate and implement software changes is essential
• Strong creative thinking and problem solving abilities
• Ability to develop distinctive strategies to achieve competitive advantage and translate broad strategies into specific objectives and action plans
• Broad knowledge of life science laboratory commodities and equipment 

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Establish and manage all vendor relationships; directly negotiate supply, service and capital purchases
• Coordinate and manage equipment service maintenance agreements for scientific equipment
• Work with and communicate effectively with the Institute’s scientific staff
• Establish and manage all purchasing policies and procedures and ensure that the Institute is in compliance with all corporate guidelines and reporting requirements 
• Work closely with and maintain a good relationship with other procurement professionals in the larger Novartis organization
• In addition to working with scientists, the position will also work closely with finance, accounting, and with the Institute’s laboratory management group
