For over 21 years, the Genomics Institute of the Novartis Research Foundation (GNF) has been doing cutting-edge innovative drug discovery for Novartis global research organization, the Novartis Institute for BioMedical Research (NIBR).

The chosen candidate will be responsible for advancing new and existing drug discovery projects within the General Medical Biology (GMB) department of GNF. The efforts of this individual will be instrumental in the advancement of candidates for potential entry into Novartis-sponsored human clinical trials.

The chosen candidate will lead a talented team composed of in vitro and in vivo scientists as well as postdoctoral fellows working on regeneration, fibrosis and mechanobiology. She/he will work closely with other drug discovery functions at GNF, including medicinal chemistry, biotherapeutics, engineering, pharmacokinetics, and translational research. Key to success is having an innovative, strategic mindset to devise and pursue state-of-the-art therapeutic approaches, with emphasis on collaborative interactions both within GNF and with colleagues in the broader organization of the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR).

Your responsibilities:

- Lead a multidisciplinary team focused on the discovery of novel drug candidates to regenerate tissue and mitigate fibrosis
- Design and implement drug discovery strategies to advance projects from initial concept through target identification and pre-clinical validation
- Supervise studies included in pre-clinical data packages supporting the transition of GNF’s drug candidates to translational medicine colleagues within NIBR
- Foster collaborative interactions with GNF/NIBR colleagues in assay development, high-throughput screening, engineering, data science, medicinal chemistry, protein engineering, drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics, and translational research
- Provide drug discovery leadership within GMB to guide individuals and project teams
- Develop comprehensive understanding of both biologic and small molecule drug discovery projects within GMB and present examples of this work at project review committees and board meetings [#video#https://youtu.be/6zHT-WPPFLY{#400,300#}#/video#]

What you will bring to the role:

- Education: PhD; Experience in Regenerative medicine or related field
- Experience: 8+ year of industry experience in biotechnology and/or biopharma
- In-depth of knowledge in vitro assay development, preclinical disease models and pharmacology study design to support drug discovery


- Lung and/or Mechanobiology experience preferable
