For over 21 years, the Genomics Institute of the Novartis Research Foundation (GNF) has been doing cutting-edge innovative drug discovery for Novartis global research organization, the Novartis Institute for BioMedical Research (NIBR).

We are seeking a highly motivated and results-driven Principal Scientist with quantitative modeling and simulation experience to join our drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics (DMPK) group. Our team plays an important role in supporting all drug discovery projects at GNF.

In this unique role of Principal Scientist PK/PD modeler, you will collaborate, align and influence the cross-functional teams to support drug discovery programs built upon our state-of-the-art scientific platforms and cutting-edge technologies. Together with other DMPK scientists, you will help to identify and mitigate key project issues related to drug metabolism, pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamics. You will be responsible for performing comprehensive PK/PD analyses, and apply mathematical modeling strategies to develop mechanistic PK/PD models to test hypotheses and support a quantitative understanding of novel mechanism(s) of action.

Your responsibilities:

• Analyze, interpret, integrate, and report preclinical PK/PD data to support drug discovery projects
• Develop and apply a range of innovative PK/PD modeling and simulation approaches to help address key questions, test scientific hypothesis, and provide scenarios to influence critical decision making
• Support the application and integration of modeling and simulation tools to describe PK/PD relationships, to guide study design and dose regimen selection; and to further optimize the design of compounds for desired efficacy and/or safety
• Collaborate with colleagues from cross functional teams, including biology, pharmacology, chemistry, data science and Novartis PK modeling and simulation groups to support compound progression and development
• Bring innovative ideas and enterprise mindset to work in a highly dynamic, matrixed, project-team environment[#video#https://youtu.be/6zHT-WPPFLY{#400,300#}#/video#]

What you’ll bring to the role:
• PhD or PharmD from an accredited university, in the area of bioengineering, pharmaceutical sciences, clinical pharmacology, or other quantitative disciplines
• Experience and coursework in pharmacokinetics and mathematical modeling. Skilled in parameter estimation, mathematical problem solving, data analysis & visualization. Working knowledge of a scripting language (e.g. MATLAB, R, Python)
• Independent working experience on mechanistic PK/PD modeling and data analysis, proficiency in using Phoenix NLME or other modeling tools is highly desirable
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Ability to communicate modeling results to non-experts to facilitate strategy and decision-making
• Highly self-motivated, commitment to excellence and integrity
