The GNF Structural Biology group is seeking a highly motivated scientist to produce and optimize protein and macromolecule samples for X-ray and Cryo-Electron microscopy studies. The successful candidate will join a group utilizing structural biology techniques to solve biomedical problems using structure based design and engineering methodologies across a wide range of disease areas and drug modalities.

The GNF structural biology group is equipped with state of the art equipment for expression, purification and macromolecule crystallization. In addition, the chosen applicant is expected to work side-by-side with the newly established in-house Cryo-Electron microscopy Center, collaborating on sample preparation and imaging efforts.

Your responsibilities:

• Guide and enable cloning, expression and purification of proteins and macromolecular complexes using prokaryotic and eukaryotic hosts.
• Characterize macromolecule samples using standard biophysical techniques for use with X-ray or Cryo-EM.
• Contribute to the analysis and synthesis of results, design of new experiments and clear communication of progress to the project team(s)
• Work and effectively communicate results as a member of cross-functional teams.
• Collaborate and communicate results with multidisciplinary project teams.[#video#https://youtu.be/6zHT-WPPFLY{#400,300#}#/video#]

What you will bring to the role:

• BS/MS degree in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, structural biology or related discipline with experience working in an academic or industry laboratory
• Experience designing and optimizing protein expression constructs and expression systems for increased yield and stability to facilitate structural studies.
• Application of standard protein biochemistry techniques such as SDS-PAGE, protein purification, interpretation of MS and biophysical measurements.
• Proven track record of expressing and characterizing a diverse range of recombinant protein or RNA complexes.
• Ability to learn and apply emerging techniques to overcome challenges with samples.
• Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to document scientific results in easy interpretable way.


• Experience with membrane protein expression and purification.
• Knowledge of X-ray or Cryo-Electron microscopy sample preparation workflows and data collection techniques
• Track record of successful reconstitution and characterization of macromolecular complexes.
• Proficiency in molecular biology techniques for the generation of plasmid constructs and use of standard DNA software.
