The Genomics Institute for the Novartis Research Foundation (GNF) in San Diego, CA, one of the Novartis Institutes of Biomedical Research (NIBR), is seeking a computational biologist with extensive experience analyzing human genetic data to support the discovery of breakthrough therapies for treating a number of debilitating diseases in General Medical Biology. You will work closely with interdisciplinary drug discovery teams composed of disease area biologists, chemists, translational specialists, as well as geneticists and data scientists at NIBR sites in Cambridge MA and Basel Switzerland, to identify new genetic targets and biomarkers and to stratify patient populations, utilizing both external and internal datasets. The successful candidate will be highly motivated, creative and collaborative, and possess effective communication skills.

Responsibilities will include:

• Providing genetics expertise for target identification using current statistical genetics methods, e.g., GWAS, MR, PRS, and eQTL / pQTL analyses.
• Mining large human Omic datasets for biomarker discovery, patient stratification, and drug reposition / indication expansion.
• Contributing to drug discovery efforts by designing and analyzing transcriptomic, proteomic, or epi-genomic data generation experiments for the determination of compound mechanism of action and pre-clinical biomarker discovery.

What you will bring to the role:

• Ph.D. in genetics, biostatistics, computational biology, or related field (Expert II DS level), plus >3 years work experience in an industrial or academic setting (Sr. Expert I DS level).
• Experience analyzing and interpreting human genetics data is required.
• Familiarity with the analysis of large biobank data is desired.
• Experience analyzing transcriptomic (e.g., bulk and/or single cell RNAseq), proteomic, and/or epi-genomic (e.g., ATAC-Seq) data is highly desired.
• Significant experience in R or Python and competency working in a Linux/Unix environment is required. Proficiency in other languages, e.g., SQL, java, Matlab is a plus.
• Demonstrated working knowledge and application of data modeling and machine learning/deep learning is a plus.
