The Protein Sciences Department is looking for a highly motivated Senior Scientist to operate a 96-sample high-throughput bacterial fermentation system. The candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary team that supports early stage small molecule and biologic drug discovery programs by performing bacterial and mammalian protein expression, purification and subsequent physicochemical characterization.

Your responsibilities:

• Setup, operation, optimization and maintenance of fermenter system
• Adapt shaker flask expression protocols to high density fermentation
• Primary protein purification
• Troubleshoot production runs
• Work with on-site engineering group to develop new workflows and instrumentation
• Support the collection of analytical data (anSEC, CE, and LCMS)
• Present scientific and technical work
• Write technical reports and SOPs
• Interact with various project teams across both GNF and the larger Novartis organization [#video#https://youtu.be/6zHT-WPPFLY{#400,300#}#/video#]

What you will bring to the role:

• BS/MS in biochemistry or related field
• Expertise in E. coli protein expression is required, ideally as part of a high-throughput protein expression platform/pipeline, although all motivated individuals are invited to apply.
• Experience with other expression systems such as yeast, HEK, CHO or insect is advantageousA practical understanding of protein purification techniques and instrumentation (gravity, FPLC, HPLC, NTA, SEC, RP etc.)
• Experience with molecular biology techniques such DNA isolation, transformation, etc.
• Familiarity/knowledge of biophysical methods (SPR, light scattering, ITC, DSC, etc) and laboratory automation is high desirable
• High degree of self-motivation and attention to detail and strong organizational and time management skills
• Desire to learn/operate across numerous functions (expression, purification, analytics and biophysics)
