For over 21 years, the Genomics Institute of the Novartis Research Foundation (GNF) has been doing cutting-edge innovative drug discovery for Novartis global research organization, the Novartis Institute for BioMedical Research (NIBR).

We are seeking a chemist with strong background in RNA synthesis and delivery who is flexible, inclusive and highly motivated with an enterprise-thinking mindset. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with multi-disciplinary teams within the organization. This is a chance to work on innovative drug discovery strategies with the potential to be clinically transformative.

Your responsibilities:

-Collaborate closely with colleagues to advance innovative RNA therapeutics to unmet medical needs in various disease areas
-Develop therapeutic RNAs and their delivery systems including siRNAs/ASOs, linkers and vehicles to achieve improved systemic targeted delivery of therapeutic RNAs

What you will bring to the role:

-Strong background in Organic Chemistry or closely related field and working experience in the relevant industry or academia with a proven track record of accomplishments
-Expertise in chemical synthesis and derivatization of oligonucleotides, in particular the-state-of-the-art siRNAs and ASOs
-Strong expertise in systemic RNA delivery
-Excellent hands-on ability in custom linkers, and derivatization of RNAs
-Ability to champion and advance creative concepts in a team setting
-Innovative, independent and detail-oriented problem solving skills
-Ability to handle multiple tasks effectively but to focus as needed
-Engagement with multidisciplinary project teams to design, execute, and interpret experiments
-Ability to manage complexity and ambiguity in a highly matrixed work environment
-Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
-Productive relationships with collaborators and champion Novartis values and behaviors

What you will bring to the role:

Relevant experience and desirables:

-Design, synthesis and application of small-molecule RNA conjugates, antibody RNA conjugates, and other targeted RNA delivery systems
-Understanding of ADMETox properties and PK-PD relationship
-Understanding of basic bioconjugation and, protein engineering concepts
-Ability to work in close collaboration with ADME, PK, and pharmacology colleagues
-Management of outsourcing RNA synthesis
