4 FDA approved drugs; 15+ clinical candidates; 400+ patents; 20 years of GNF history! For over 21 years, the Genomics Institute of the Novartis Research Foundation (GNF) has been doing cutting-edge innovative drug discovery for Novartis global research organization, the Novartis Institute for BioMedical Research (NIBR).

Your responsibilities:

NIBR La Jolla (GNF) seeks a highly motivated Genome Engineering biologist to join a matrixed, multi-disciplinary team focused on delivering innovative genome-based care to patients in a wide range of disease areas. The successful candidate will use their core expertise to drive innovative technical and therapeutic solutions in collaboration with embedded world-class automation, protein sciences, data sciences, genomics, chemistry, drug discovery, and drug development support. Such core expertise and associated approaches may include genome editing, viral production, modification, or delivery, RNAi, bacterial enzymology, protein engineering, nanoparticle delivery, or other specialties, though practical bench-level expertise in one or more genome engineering technologies is a must. The candidate will be expected to lead and grow an independent lab while contributing globally, at least initially from the bench, while supervising one or more direct reports. While drug discovery experience is not required, the candidate will be expected to contribute to adapting or deriving innovative therapeutic modalities. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to inspire others, be their experiments, not their data, think creatively, tailor approaches to patient needs, exhibit long-term vision, and design and execute scientific workflows that will contribute to extending our rich tradition of harnessing first-rate science in the service of improving healthcare outcomes.
