For over 21 years, the Genomics Institute of the Novartis Research Foundation (GNF) has been doing cutting-edge innovative drug discovery for Novartis global research organization, the Novartis Institute for BioMedical Research (NIBR).
NIBR La Jolla (GNF) seeks a highly motivated Genome Engineering biologist to join a matrixed, multi-disciplinary team focused on delivering innovative genome-based care to patients in a wide range of disease areas. The successful candidate will use their core expertise to drive innovative technical and therapeutic solutions in collaboration with embedded world-class automation, protein sciences, data sciences, genomics, chemistry, drug discovery, and drug development support. Such core expertise and associated approaches may include genome editing, viral production, modification, or delivery, RNAi, bacterial enzymology, protein engineering, nanoparticle delivery, or other specialties, though practical bench-level expertise in one or more genome engineering technologies is a must. The candidate will be a member of a new Genome Engineering lab and will be expected to design, execute, process, interpret, analyze, and present experimental workflows and associated data under the supervision of a Principal Scientist and in collaboration with a fast-paced global team. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to inspire others, be their experiments not their data, think creatively, read the and understand the relevant literature, and execute scientific workflows that will contribute to extending our rich tradition of harnessing first-rate science in the service of improving healthcare outcomes.

What you will bring to the role:
The successful candidate will have earned BS or MS in biology, biochemistry, or chemistry and have 3+ years of lab-based experience, either in training or in a professional capacity, in the field of Genome Engineering. Significant expertise in practical molecular biology, protein engineering, cell biology, and genome engineering technologies are a must, with viral delivery, RNAi, NextGen analysis, formulation chemistry, and bacterial enzymology considered as complementary and additive. Excellent interpersonal skills and a sense of team play are required. Must possess the ability to work in the U.S. in a for-profit capacity.
