We are actively recruiting exceptional scientists, at a variety of levels, to join the Cancer Therapeutics team at GNF a division of NIBR, the Novartis Institutes of Biomedical Research). As part of this recruiting drive, we are seeking a highly motivated PhD-level associate / principal scientist with extensive in vivo experience to support drug discovery programs with rodent model development, target validation studies, drug screening and hit validation, studies of drug mechanism, and pharmacodynamic studies. The successful candidate will have experience designing and running mouse models for Oncology as well as tissue and blood collection. Experience with the culturing of mammalian cell lines is also highly desirable. The candidate is also expected to work in a highly matrixed multidisciplinary team and collaborate with various functional groups across GNF and NIBR.

Your responsibilities:
• Provide scientific expertise in in vivo pharmacology to guide related project decisions and in vivo study plans
• Design, conduct and manage rodent in vivo pharmacology studies to evaluate and establish Efficacy/PK/PD relationships
• Develop novel animal models that more closely mimic human cancer to answer mechanistic questions, discover and validate therapeutic targets, and screen/profile drug candidates
• Development and validation of xenograft, syngeneic and GEMM tumor models
• Train and mentor research associates to maximize team performance
• Perform extensive hands-on in vivo work including animal handling, compound administration, surgical procedures and tissue collection
• Experience with ex vivo analysis such as FACS, western blots, qPCR, ELISA
• Data collection, analysis, documentation and interpretation.
• Work collaboratively within group, department and across multi-disciplinary teams of scientists

Minimum requirements:
• Ph.D. in Cancer biology, biochemistry or other related fields
• 3+ years of post-Ph.D. experience studying cancer biology (industry or academic institution)
• Hands-on in vivo experience, including animal restraint, compound administration via various routes, tissue collection and tissue dissection
• Experience with in vitro assays to look at biomarkers in ex vivo tissues (FACS, western blot, qPCR, ELISA)
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, a team player, enthusiastic about drug discovery, with strong work ethics
• Ability to work independently in a highly interactive and fast-paced drug discovery environment
