Peter McNamara, Ph.D.,
Dr. McNamara currently serves as Executive Director of Biotherapeutics and Biotechnology at the Genomics Institute of the Novartis Research Foundation (GNF), and oversees the efforts of approximately 130 scientists and engineers spanning most of GNF’s platform technologies. This group is responsible for biotherapeutics discovery and optimization, protein sciences, structural biology, functional genomics, HTS, automation and engineering. Since joining GNF in 2005 he has directly contributed to 8 clinical candidates including the FXR agonists LJN452 and LMB763 and has had leadership roles in pharmacology and drug discovery biology within the institute. Before joining GNF he was the Director of Pharmacology at Phenomix Corporation, where he led their DPP4 inhibitor program from lead discovery to a PoC clinical trial. Prior to Phenomix, he spent five years at the University of Pennsylvania as both a post-doctoral fellow and junior faculty member at the Institute for Translational Medicine and Therapeutics in the School of Medicine, where his research focused on atherosclerosis and vascular circadian biology. Dr. McNamara received his Ph.D. in biochemistry from the National University of Ireland, at Galway.
